Can't help falling for fall... by Liz Kobak

Tomorrow marks the beginning of fall, a season which reigns supreme in the world of fashionable New Yorkers (friends have said I fall under this category as well, so let’s roll with it).

Speaking of fall, I’ve fallen for the season so much that I actually fell on the tennis court yesterday because I couldn’t wait to get a head start on autumn (either that, or on account of bad luck). We had an amazingly fun crew (Steph, Danny, Craig and I) in Newport competing (albeit playfully, literally) at the Tennis Hall of Fame’s USTA national open; I’m oversimplifying things at the moment as it’s all very tender, but I took quite the spill on grass and tore my ACL in my left knee yesterday for the second time in my life. The first time the knee gave out in competition, I was 18 years old and playing doubles in the then Legg Mason tournament which was a professional event that’s now called the Citi Open. That seemed like forever ago until yesterday, when both of my knees buckled and then the left knee’s ACL broke yet again. The worst part was having to withdraw from the women’s doubles final and the mixed semi-final, more than anything. It felt as though I had let my partners down, even though they’re both incredibly understanding about the unfortunate situation.

Steph could not have been a more supportive friend, wheeling me off the court before driving back to nyc together and then having images taken at a local NYC hospital. Upon discharge, our friend Marn graciously drove us back to NYC where Steph and I chatted fashion over some sushi. She’s an inspiration in many ways; I do hope to be as nice of a friend as she is to me. There’s no way everything would have gone as smoothly as it did without her being there.

Earlier today, we walked past the Beacon Theatre, where we snapped some quick pics before heading to the grocery store and making a pit stop at none other than Sephora before heading home for some R&R. Outside of the iconic theatre, I’m wearing my signature rhinestone-embellished sweatshirt designed by Christopher John Rogers for Bergdorf Goodman, a matching Prada re-edition purse also in purple rhinestones, plus cozy free city sweats and the icing on the cake that needs no introduction: my new knee brace (official name pending).

Thank you so much to everyone who has sent healing thoughts and good wishes. Despite not being able to play tennis at the start of fall or probably any time soon, the sport remains top of mind and I’ll be participating in ways outside of just playing the game. In the meantime, stay tuned for some fashionable surprises in store for you…
